On May 22nd 2003 (now commonly refered to
as '522'), Canvey Islands 'Statue of
Liberty' at the Point was destroyed in an act of unwanten
selfishness. Known to the residents of Canvey Island simply as
'The Concrete Barge', The FCB18 (Ferro Concrete
Barge Type 18) was a local landmark where the local kids played and
probably experimented with mind enhancing substances and moonied the
adjacent drinking establishment. Apparently David
Blaine was once stranded on the Barge when the tide came in
and went without food & water for 6 hours until he paddled
to the shore.. This was his introduction to a life of doing
stuff on telly.
It's a well know er, fact that the Concrete Barge single handedly
won WW2 for us and was sacrificed to save the Sea
wall during the Canvey Floods. She was repaid by
being demolished as part of a cleaning up of unwanted structures on
the water side of the sea wall. Hopefully the job will be completed
soon and the adjacent eyesore will be demolished too.
Local rumour has it that on the 22nd of every month a ghostly
vision of the Barge is seen hovering towards the Yatched club,
perhaps trying to give a clue to her murder?
You are bidding for an 'artists' (I use the word loosly)
impression of what could be seen if there was anywhere left to take
mind enhancing substancies except alchohol if you looked out over
the Sea Wall at the Point on a cold dark evening. The winner will
recieve the image in 'jpg' format via email.
