Rare Canvey postcard, "The People's Erection" which seems to be some
sort of oriental-style pagoda built to commemorate a victorious peasant
uprising. The card, judging by the 2004 postmark and President Scargill
stamp, has arrived through an inexplicable timewarp but is in excellent
used condition. The reverse contains an historically interesting inscription,
part of which is quoted here:
...with the rough end of a
pineapple. Then went to the Point roundabout where last year the
people marched with the heads of crooked counsellors and
bourgoisee yatching types impaled on spikes. The pagoda, visible
from everywhere on the island, is so impressive up close. And
nearby we even managed to find a couple of relics of the burned
and bombed Yatch Club building to sell on Ebay. A great holiday.
Tomorrow after 15 minutes of hate we'll join the first People's
Carnival since the fall of the evil-doers. P.S. nice to see on TV
Her Majesty's cleaning toilets in Hackney these days - about time
the wicked old trout got hers, eh?
This postcard is unique and I have an unlimited supply of them.
It is either a genuine time-slip artefact or the product of a vexed
Canvey ex-pat with a PC and an inkjet printer. Either way it's bound
to be worth a packet some time*
Postage is free to the bottom of the sea. Elsewhere double.
