Barge Sounds by DJ Andy Jackson. Extaordinary hip hop / dub / what-the-hell-is-that album that mashes up the sounds of Canvey RnB heroes (Dr Feelgood, Wilko Johnson, Lew Lewis) with Jimi Hendrix, Public Enemy, Roots Manuca, The Beach Boys, Serge Gainsbourg and Pinky & Perky! These artists and more are woven into original material and distorted, echoed and dubbed into another universe. 'Barge Sounds' is a scorching concept album inspired by the life and death of Canvey Island's legendary Concrete Barge. The music reflects the story of the barge - violent, lyrical, erotic and unique. Vocals are provided by voice sythesisers, Texas Instruments Speak n Math, DJ Andy Jackson, and Canvey street poets Jimi Gray and David Bullock.

Proceeds are going to charity so look upon it as a donation, for which you receive the most staggeringly brilliant album of this century.

Tracks:

Someone Who Stood Up. Menacing Hip Hop intro to the DJ behind Barge Sounds

Ferro Chequebook. Classic Wilko Johnson guitar overlaid with multiple voice sythesisers - an RnB hymn to the world's most loved Concrete Barge

Five Twenty Two. Scorching hip hop beats with manically sctrached samples of 70's speaking toy Speak n Math. 5/22 is the anniversary of the destruction of The Barge.

Une Poise Concret. Brooding French translation of the epic Concrete Poem, in the style of Serge Gainsbourg, including elements from the classic Melody Nelson.

Booty. Reflecting the erotic history of Canvey's 'Love Barge', this track mixes sensual beats, moaning lovers... and the theme to Captain Pugwash! It's dirty and you want it.

Yellow FCB. A haunting dub version of the Beatles nursery rhyme.

Shafted. Hip hop beats and human beatbox, with synthesised female choir mixed with a reggae version of The Theme From Shaft.

Concrete Barge, No. Pinky & Perky drop in and blow us away with this version of Brian Wilson 's classic Beach Boys Pet Sounds ballad.

Wallowing Beauty. Sun-drenched instrumental, with distorted and pitch-changed 'Good Vibrations' organ and wallowing Nashville and guitar and accordian by Kate Campbell.

The Watchtowers. Gothic 80's Casio keyboard lament, with hypnotic poetry fragment, "The Watchtowers of the Apocalypse have been toppled by Tory councillors..."

Sophisticated Blend. Extreme hip hop scratching and jaw-droppingly absurd blend of (deep breath) The Clash, Sherrif John Bunnel, Public Enemy, Stanley Unwin, Dr Feelgood, I-Roy and Basil Brush TV theme.

Un Poem Concreto. Spanish latino version of the greatest poem ever written about a concrete barge. Tito Puente and his big band welcome you aboard their fantasy love barge!

Punish Cristopher Lee's reading for Lou Reed 's 'The Raven' is scratched into oblivion for this chilling tale of vengance, laced with hip hop flavas and weird circuit-bent 70's toy Speak n Spell.

Curvaceous c/w Caravan Man. Dave Bullock recites his ode to a 'Curvaceous Cunning Concrete Construction'. The elegant and subdued beats give way to jagged Wilko Johnson guitar riffs and tranforms into a caustic instrumental dub version of Lew Lewis' finest song.

Chimes of Sorrow. A Shubert piano trio Andante, echoed and pitch changed melts sorrowfully with ancient harmonies ringing from iron chimes made from relics of The Concrete Barge.

A Concrete Poem. Jimmy Gray, Canvey's superb urban poet provides the dark nightmare hip hop / dub centrepiece of Barge Sounds. Like nothing you've heard before, with a finale that your hi-fi is unlikely to survive.

Relics (Karaoke Version). Japanese Tokyo gangster-rockers Thee Michelle Gun Elephant meet the wailing harmonica of Lew Lewis. Sing along, if you think you're hard enough.

Johnny Barge Goode. A crowd-pleasing rock 'n' roll finale with more weird sythesised voices joining the late great Lee Brilleaux in Chuck Berry's classic song.
